What We Collect

When a reader opens a review of Capital.com on this site, the server records the usual request data: the page requested, the time of the request, the referring page if one was passed along, and a truncated form of the network address the request came from. This happens whenever a browser asks a web server for a file, whether or not the reader does anything else.

Beyond that routine data, this site collects only what a reader chooses to type into the contact form. That means the message itself and whatever return route the reader decides to give, such as an email address. Nothing else is asked for and nothing else is required.

We do not collect trading account details, holdings, deposit information, identity documents, or payment card data. This site does not open accounts, does not accept deposits, and does not process transactions, so none of that information has any reason to pass through it. We also do not build reader profiles for advertising and do not sell information to anyone.

Why We Process Data

The legal basis for handling routine server data is our legitimate interest in keeping the site online, secure, and working as intended. Knowing which pages fail to load or attract unexpected traffic is part of running any publication.

The legal basis for handling a contact form message is the reader's consent, given by the act of sending it, together with our legitimate interest in reading and responding to correspondence addressed to us. Where a message asks a question about the reviews, answering it is the purpose; the message is not used for anything wider.

We do not rely on any other basis and we do not carry out automated decision-making or profiling that would affect a reader's rights.

Where Data Is Held

This site is operated from and served to readers in Australia, but some of the service providers that keep it running may store or process data on servers located outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union. Hosting, security, and correspondence handling are the kinds of services involved.

Recipients are limited to those providers and to anyone the reader deliberately sends a message to. We do not pass reader information to Capital.com or to any other broker, platform, or commercial partner, and we do not share it for advertising. Providers act on our instructions and are bound to use the data only for the service they supply.

How Long Records Stay

Routine server records are kept for a short, defined period, typically a few weeks, long enough to investigate faults and security incidents, and are then deleted or aggregated so that individual requests can no longer be identified.

Contact form messages are kept for as long as needed to deal with the matter raised and for a reasonable period afterwards, in case the same reader writes again. Once that period ends, the message is deleted.

We do not keep information indefinitely simply because storage is cheap. When the purpose that justified holding a record has passed, the record goes.

Readers And Their Rights

A reader may ask what information this site holds about them, ask for a copy, ask for corrections, ask for deletion, or object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing rests on consent, consent can be withdrawn at any time without affecting what happened before the withdrawal.

Requests are made through the contact form on this site, describing what is wanted and enough detail to locate the relevant records. We aim to answer within a reasonable time and will explain if a request cannot be met in full.

This site is not directed at children. It is written for adults who want to read editorial reviews, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under eighteen. If a parent or guardian believes a child has sent information through the contact form, they can write through the same form and the message will be removed.
